MAGIC THREADS • RUG TUFTING
GRADE LEVELS 6TH–12TH

In Magic Threads – Rug Tufting, students learn how to design and create their own custom rugs using professional tufting machines. They begin by sketching original designs on paper and transferring them onto stretched fabric frames. Each student learns how to properly thread, control, and operate a tufting machine to bring their ideas to life with yarn, focusing on outlining shapes, filling color sections, and combining multiple colors and textures. Once the tufting is complete, students move through the finishing process—applying glue to secure the backing, trimming away excess yarn, and shaving the surface to reveal clean lines and smooth textures. They also attach their own backing fabric, completing the process from raw design to finished product. Every step emphasizes safety, attention to detail, and craftsmanship. All rugs created during the program belong to the students. Whether they complete one large piece or several smaller projects, they get to keep everything they make. Students who stay focused and apply themselves can finish several rugs throughout the program, building both skill and pride in their work while gaining a clear understanding of the full rug-making process.

MAGIC THREADS • Foundations
GRADE LEVELS 3RD–8TH

Magic Threads – Foundations is a dynamic arts program designed to engage students by introducing them to a variety of yarn arts techniques. Over the course of the program, participants will explore punch needle art and knitting/crocheting, offering a comprehensive hands-on learning experience.

Students will have the opportunity to create unique pieces through punch needle art, using embroidery loops and specialized tools to design textured works
that can range from small coasters and wall hangings to larger decorative items. They will also dive into knitting and crocheting, where they can produce a wide range of projects such as plushies, scarves, beanies, bags, and blankets. These activities encourage both creativity and practical skill-building, allowing students to see their ideas come to life stitch by stitch.

Throughout the program, students will progress from smaller starter projects like keychains and coasters to more advanced creations such as wearable accessories and plush toys. They will receive guidance on setting up materials, mastering techniques, and finishing their projects with quality and care.

In addition to crafting, Magic Threads sparks imagination and self-expression. Students explore color, texture, and design while building confidence in their creativity and discovering new interests that can inspire their future learning.
